Advanced Web Design
The earliest form of the World Wide Web was purely text, even though the internal system that Berners-Lee created at CERN was graphical. Graphical programs were developed and browsers were altered allowing for graphics to be displayed which meant web designers could implement more of their graphical skills and web sites became much more colourful and dynamic. The introduction of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) meant that all the style detail for the colour and font of the site would be kept in a style sheet. A similar style of coding would be used and it would allow the website to be consistent throughout. This means that it keeps the HTML code sheet smaller and more concise and often the web browser will cache the style sheet so that it will load up quickly.
The next step for website design was the introduction of Macromedia flash which gives web designers the ability to create moving images that will work on the web browser. Many corporate companies will have very intricate flash introductions that will lead into a cleverly designed site. Other forms of flash can be used on a lower level for moving symbols or mouse over text. Flash is all coded into the HTML document that will allow a certain part of the website to be activated. Often the flash images are very big and are quite slow to download onto a computer so some people are put off from using them.
